Earned income from investment of the Foundation's endowment is gifted annually in the form of grants to area not-for-profit organizations, agencies, and
projects - along with donations received through our
Sustaining Membership Program.

HIGHLAND CIVIC WOMAN'S CLUB GERALYN REHKEMPER MEMORIAL FUND
The Highland Civic Woman's Club Geralyn M. Rehkemper Memorial Fund Scholarship award recipient will be selected by the Highland Civic Woman's Club with help from the advisory member named in the Fund Agreement and will be announced by the Highland Civic Woman's Club in the spring of each year. The recipient is to be a mother who wishes to enrich her life further through education. More than one recipient may be selected each year.

Grant Policies & Procedures
- The Foundation will operate without discrimination as to age, race, religion, sex or national origin in considering grant applications and will award grants only to entities which do not discriminate as to age, race, religion, sex or national origin.
- Grant awards are limited to not-for-profit organizations, agencies, groups, programs and projects.
- Grant funds must be used within the territory of the Highland Community School District Number 5, Marine Township, or St. Jacob Township.
- Preference will be given to projects and programs that:
- Meet the criteria of charitable purposes as defined in the Internal Revenue Code and which
include the following:
- Relief of the poor, distressed or underprivileged
- Provide for health and human services
- Advancement of education, science and the arts
- Erection or maintenance of public buildings, monuments or works
- Lessening the burdens of government
- Lessening of neighborhood tensions
- Community development, including recreational needs
- Elimination of prejudice and discrimination
- Defense of human and civil rights
- Combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency
- Protect the environment and promote conservation
- Respond to current and emerging needs or gaps of needed services in the
area served by the Highland Area Community Foundation.
- Demonstrate an ongoing and/or increasing need in the community.
- Provide for the inception of a new program or project that is needed and not replicated in the community.
- Strengthen volunteer participation and citizen involvement in community concerns.
- The Foundation encourages the participation of others in funding projects and may provide "seed" money in an attempt to stimulate increased response from other sources or to help start new not-for-profit ventures.
- The Foundation normally will not award grants from unrestricted income for the following:
- Field trips
- Operational expenses
- Endowments
- Underwriting of deficits
- Post-event funding
- Staff salaries
- Political activities
- Government agencies
- Application procedures and requirements are included on the Grant Application Form.
- Applicants will be notified in writing of the status of their application after review action by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
- Applicants must spend any granted funds only for the purpose stated in the grant award and the applicants grant the Foundation the right to review the application with advisors of its' choosing. Any unused granted funds within the project completion date will be returned to the Foundation unless the Foundation grants an extension.
- Applicants will provide to the Foundation a written report within twelve (12) months of the date of the grant award including photographs if appropriate.
